How I got into UX Design
My eyes were glued to my glowing computer screen as I begrudgingly moved blue rectangles across the slide deck thinking to myself: “There has got to be a better way.” In this moment, I was a lone Internal Communications Manager trying to figure out how to make a messy intranet into a more functional one. There was so much content to be organized, even more opinions to manage, and an ongoing argument about Futura or Roboto. It was 6:58 p.m. and it was the happiest I had ever been.
Up until that point, my sole purpose in life had always been pinned to storytelling. It’s what I’m naturally good at. Being able to write well led to my degree in Journalism; it’s what launched my careers at IBM, McCann Worldgroup, and Anthology Marketing Group.
But there were these glimmering little moments in between--like digging deep into the data when no one asked me to, and always bringing the human element to the task--where I realized my true calling was to be a UX Designer. Following a pandemic layoff, I joined a UX bootcamp, hit the ground running and never looked back.
So here I am, on a mission to create experiences that are thoughtful, inclusive and beautiful.
I have had the opportunity to do this at a small legal startup and now at a large financial company; easily adapting to new challenges and delivering thoughtful solutions along the way.
I’m based in Austin, TX and enjoy being outside as much as I can. I would love to talk to you about UX or ask me about my latest hobby, or if I’m keeping my plants alive.
